Did you know the third most famous Jersey boy after Bruce and Bon Jovi is KEVIN SMITH? We’re not sure if that’s totally true but it sure seems like it based on the number of Kevin Smith die hard movie fans that exist. Kevin Smith grew up in Highlands and filmed here, in Red Bank and Atlantic Highlands for his movies like Clerks, Chasing Amy, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back and Jersey Girl.
Quick Stop @58 Leonard Ave, Leonardo. The most iconic location is this still-standing convenience store where the now famous actor was actually working and filmed most of his breakthrough film, Clerks. But first, stop for a Taylor Ham (aka Pork Roll) Sandwich at Slater's Deli and grab a sweet drink to wash down all the salty deliciousness.
Jay and Silent Bob’s Secret Stash ~ Stop by to celebrate the 25th anniversary of this comic book store Smith owns in Red Bank, popular for its quaint downtown shops and restaurants and home to many scenes he shot for his films.
Jack's Music Shoppe -Red Bank, Right across the street from the comic book store is the music shop below the apartment Holden and Banky share in Smith’s sexy movie: Chasing Amy. Leaf through all the new records and come back and play them at the Beach Lodge’s record player! While following Silent Bob's footsteps in Red Bank, do what he would do and stop for a beer at Red Tank Brewing.
Welcome to the Highlands Mural ~ Highlands. We actually spotted Kevin Smith himself on Miller Hill right by the Beach Lodge taking pictures of this gorgeous mural (that’s him posing for a pic for us).
Franny’s Pizza - Highlands. Jay worked at Franny’s predecessor Franceso’s and has been known to pop in for a slice. You may or may not see Jay when you visit, but you will definitely get great piece of ‘za while you are there.
We saw Kevin Smith’s film crew block off the area on Atlantic Highland’s main street First Ave around Jaspan's Hardware and Carton Brewing back in '21. We envision a scene where he shops hammered for hammers. While you're there, peruse the well stocked Jaspan for the tools you need for your next home improvement project.
Post shopping, head across the street for Happy Hour at Carton Brewery to fortify yourself from all that touring.
Speaking of Atlantic Highlands ...Kevin Smith now owns Smod Castle Cinemas which is THE place to see movies, live shows, comedy, music and of course cult classics ~ Clerks has a perm spot on the roster!
