If you’ve got a rainy day and the kids are bored of the 10+ board games in the house or you just need something besides the beach to keep the littles entertained - try these fun spots:
Highlands Playgrounds – Adult & Kid jungle gym and basketball court @Veterans Memorial Park (Bay & Shrewsbury St); new playground at Huddy Park (Shore Dr & Water Witch) + BRAND NEW Skate Park – right outside Highlands Municipal Building.
Go Fishin’ – Charter a boat from Captain Lou at Reel Happy Fishing Charters or Cpt Sean at Warden Sportsfishing Charters or a fishing skiff from Captain's Cove Marina in Highlands and let the kids bring home dinner for a change! Seasonal - all walkable in town
Seastreak Ferry: Take the kids to NYC for the day or check their schedule for special events like whalewatching, eco tourism and sun set cruises! 1mile down the road -15 min walk/2 min car ride. Free day parking.
Silverball Retro Museum Arcade/Asbury Park Boardwalk– we’re not sure who likes this place more-kids or the adults who appreciate new and vintage games including the original Atari’s Pong. Plus it’s right on Asbury Park’s boardwalk so the fam can grab a bite, people watch and shop after mastering your skee ball game. 30 min drive
Keansburg Boardwalk & Amusement Park - Classic boardwalk amusement park with dozens of rides like bumper cars, arcade games & beach eats. Seasonal 20 min drive
Huber Woods Park – Middletown – Free entry 7am – dusk. Take a hike around the park and stop for a visit at their Environmental Center and Reptile House home to a variety of snakes and turtles! 10 min drive
Movie Theatre – When the weather is extreme, you can’t go wrong with popcorn and a movie. Check out SmodCastle Cinema in Atlantic Highlands (owned by the one and only Kevin Smith!!!).
Little Chicken -Festively decorated event space with activities, classes & fun events like mommy + me yoga for kids as young as 2. Atlantic Highlands. 10 min drive
Lucky Dog Surf School – Sea Bright – This surf school has a camp just for kids ages 8-15 for 3 hours a day from June - August where they’re taught the fundamentals of surfing while having a blast….and getting really tired out. Seasonal 10 min drive
Bowling: Rain or shine, kids are guaranteed a good time at Bowlero in Hazlet Rt 36. Asbury Lanes - This fab space is the perfect combo of Bowling Alley + Diner + Music Venue + featuring music from the local music academy to your favorite cover band. PLUS the diner makes some of the world’s best pancakes... Asbury Park is only 30 min from BSBL and a perfect spot for a trip with the family and friends!!!
Farms: NJ is called the Garden State for good reason! Farm out the fun at these beautiful spots not too far from the Beach Lodge-check their websites for events all year. Holland Ridge Farms, Battle View Orchards, Oak Hill Farms, Happy Day Farm, Casola Farms, and Bullock Farms.
